Overview The Network Engineer maintains all aspects of the company's core wide-area and local-area networking and security appliance infrastructure. Key aspects of this responsibility include supporting the Vitamin Shoppe's nearly 750 end point store networks, 5 end point corporate networks, and the many point-to-point private network connections that provide connectivity to key third party business and IT partners. In addition to daily maintenance and support tasks (e.g., network routing, switching and firewall security), responsibilities include coordinating network related projects as a technical lead and fulfilling network service requests in support of projects being managed outside of Infrastructure Services. This position requires a high degree of interdepartmental collaboration and a proven ability to leverage internal and external resources to get the job done. The three pillars of Vitamin Shoppe's Network Services team are SLA based service delivery, change management and project/task delivery. Strategically, The Vitamin Shoppe is on a journey to deliver an exceptional customer experience that is supported by the convergence of traditional retail IT and digital IT. In this regard, the role is often called upon to support related initiatives from a networking perspective and to be a risk-taker in terms formulating and sharing innovative ideas in support of the journey. Responsibilities Network Engineering Responsibilities Perform technical requirements and data gathering analysis for technology requests that include networking platforms and services. Perform capacity planning and sizing on network platform. Knowledge of network architecture and solution design as it pertains to both operations and projects. Help establish and insure SLAs are maintained for identified network services (e.g., store WAN, corp. WAN, third party WAN, remote access, etc.) Provide ongoing support for the company's WAN, LAN and WLAN infrastructure Work with the team and management to insure that network monitoring, management, troubleshooting and SLA reporting tools are in place to support the network Help establish, execute and monitor network partner procedures to drive SLA adherence Work with network service partners to establish and execute SOWs in support of service request fulfillment and network projects Periodically act as project lead for network infrastructure projects that have been sponsored by the infrastructure/network team Responsible for problem management efforts including root cause analysis and information security incident response Proactively develop and help institute new or adjusted support procedures for the Service Desk to insure this group is prepared to handle first level support for network related changes and implementations Assist in maintaining inventories of the organization's IT assets within the scope of this job description Assist in designing, executing and maintaining disaster recovery plan Travel to the Virginia and Arizona Distribution Centers may be required Assist in supporting and administrating Cisco PBX phone system Information Security Responsibilities Assist the information security team with the ongoing management of the company's firewalls and network security appliances Identify, evaluate, implement and manage network related information security controls required to maintain PCI, Sarbanes-Oxley and general computing controls compliance Support technology audits and complete related service requests Support the preparation and submission of Vitamin Shoppe's yearly PCI filing. Help develop new information security policies and controls as driven by the introduction of new network technologies or changes Report existing or new security and/or compliance risks to Vitamin Shoppe's ISA's immediately upon becoming aware that such items exist Understand and adhere to information security policies as they relate to the ongoing operation of the company's network infrastructure Monitor, analyze and follow up on network related security alerts IT Governance Responsibilities Assess and identify opportunities to reduce expenses related to the networking technology and services When acting in the capacity of a technical lead, manage project related expenses in accordance with the approved project budgets Assist with the establishment of service and support contracts for systems and services within the scope of the job description. Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of intellectual instruction and work experience Required Knowledge:
In-depth technical knowledge of the various technologies outlined in this job description. Certifications preferred. Cisco switching and routing Firewalls (Juniper, Checkpoint, Fortigate) and VPNs Infoblox DNS and DHCP Fortinet routers and switches Cisco VOIP WAN design Experience Required:
3- 5 years of direct network engineering experience (retail experience required) Skill and Ability:
Strong written, oral communication skills and interpersonal skills Must have excellent communication skills, with demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict and be able to maintain calm in stressful situations. Strong organizational and project management abilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong customer service skills Strong working and technical knowledge of systems administration, networking, systems and network security Strong in-depth knowledge of system and network design and architecture Strong ability to manage third party vendors in operational and project deliverables Proven track record of mentoring junior and/or peers On-Call 24x7 Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work related experience ITIL is a plus Scripting knowledge to automate routine tasks is a plus
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
System & Network AdministrationEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
