Overview The Director of Logistics is responsible for the planning, execution, service and financial performance of the movement of all goods throughout Vitamin Shoppe's Supply Chain - from source to consumption. The Director will lead activities and strategy for the Retail stores and Direct to Consumer web and other business channels, including any expansion into new markets. This position will determine the best way to conduct transportation activities; including selection of business partners, third-party providers and internal organization structure. The Director will identify and drive results and change initiatives to improve the business, leveraging partnerships, technology, process and data to make positive changes to the business. Responsibilities Transportation Strategy and Planning Develop and implement transportation management strategies to optimize the flow of goods in from our suppliers and out to stores or customers resulting in overall improvement in company margins and service. Develop and leverage our 3PL Transportation Management Services provider to support strategies to reduce transportation spend and service improvement. Identify strategies and tactics to negotiate and execute a balanced service vs. cost network of world-wide direct-to-consumer parcel shipments to support the web and catalog channels. Lead change management, project activities and system enhancements which generate year-over-year improvements in service and cost. Assemble to best mix of carriers, providers, business partners, third-party logistics providers and support vendors to execute a best-in-class supply chain. Identify the needs and lead the expansion and growth of the Supply Chain so that the transportation and distribution network can support the company growth over a 5-year planning horizon. Transportation Tactical Ensure the necessary resources, tools and equipment are in place to execute transportation services reliably and consistently each day, each week and each month. Ensure inbound flow of goods arrive on-time to planned arrival dates using best mode/service provider and supply chain has planned ample capacity to receive and process goods. Ensure outbound delivery to stores arrive on delivery day and within delivery window, reliably, consistently and with quality. Use planning tools to anticipate variability and changes in the network to gather additional capacity or release capacity as needed. Develop and manage the process to effectively communicate transportation department performance, initiatives, and results to the organization. Manage the carriers and 3PL TMS services to The Vitamin Shoppe including meeting with carrier representatives to review base transportation related issues and carrier performance. Perform competitive bids for services as needed and meet strategic initiatives. Review current processes to identify cost and service improvement opportunities. Optimize the movement of all freight and direct shipments taking into account customer service, timeline, and cost. Review and monitor execution for all areas of logistics flow of goods and correct deficiencies in performance by implementing and monitoring corrective action plans with providers. Develop and manage transportation support structure. Ensure compliance to all regulatory issues. Metrics/Reporting, Analysis and Financial Results Develop, manage, and execute transportation budgets and forecasts in support of overall company financial objectives. Develop and manage an effective transportation information reporting system. Perform ongoing analysis of transportation costs to determine opportunities and actions for cost saving and optimization of transportation expense. Develop and implement weekly transportation flash reporting. Monitor metrics and identify areas of improvement and implement tactical plans to realize better performance. Manage a carrier scorecard and carrier performance review process. Part of the performance measurements for this role will be financial performance to plan, the efficiency of freight movements and service metrics. Communication and Collaboration Provide nothing less than exceptional communication and partnership with customers and users of the transportation services. Namely, Store Operations, Store Managers, District Managers and Customer Care. Always be proactive in sharing and communicating information, good and bad, that may impact any part of the retail or Direct experience. Establish and maintain communications with all carriers and service providers so events, problems and opportunities are shared openly in a quick and effective manner. Be an advocate for the Supply Chain and the Business by working collaboratively with other departments specifically aimed towards problem solving and improving the business. Build a strong network of supporters. Other Functions:

Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain/Logistics or equivalent combination of intellectual instruction and work experience. Required Knowledge:
Understanding of transportation network design and transportation lane management Experience Required:
8 - 10 years of transportation experience with a minimum of 5 years managing retail or consumer packaged goods transportation operations including inbound, outbound to stores and outbound direct to customers. Familiarity with hub and spoke, or pool distribution methodologies. Development and management of annual transportation budget greater than $15 million Design and management of transportation lanes to optimize freight out / freight in efficiencies resulting in lower total company cost Development and management of 3PL processes and relationships Transportation network design/management in retail environment Collaboration with all supply chain partners in analyzing, developing, and implementing transportation strategies to support business growth needs and improve overall companymargins Skill and Ability:
Strong analytical skills Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with supply chain partners tooptimize transportation performance
Salary Range:
$200K -- $250K
Minimum Qualification
Supply Chain & LogisticsEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
